Undiscovered App #68: Retro Racing

Retro Racing
Have you ever longed for the good old days when racing games weren't all shiny and 3-D, and where game play took center stage instead of being hidden behind fancy graphics?

If so, it's your lucky day. Today's Undiscovered App, Retro Racing by Mr. Qwak, takes you back to those days when you'd just race around in retro pixelated glory, collecting power-ups, skidding, sliding, and spinning, all in an attempt to beat the competition and survive for the next race.

Check out the game play video below:

Retro Racing has plenty of levels, smooth controls, and is a great racing app for when you want that enjoyable trip down memory lane. It is currently available to download for $1.99, and has a 4.5 star average rating from 867 reviews. Highly recommended.

Undiscovered App #67: Text Extractor Pro

Text Extractor Pro
If you use your iPhone much, you'll probably find that from time to time, there's a bit of text that you'd like to copy, but since it's imprinted on an image, you can't do it since all you can highlight is the image. I hate it when that happens.

That's where today's Undiscovered App, called Text Extractor Pro, comes in handy. It lets you take an image or PDF file and extract the text from it, and then send it out via text or email so you can store it somewhere more useful.

I gave it a try and took a picture with my iPhone, then I launched the program and highlighted the area on the photo where the text was, and it came out pretty accurately. It seems to have some trouble if the text is close to any graphics, and other reviews were pretty negative on it since it didn't work very well with other foreign languages. If you're primarily an English reader, then this might work out for you.

This is one of the more unconventional names we've written about, since this has an average review of only 2 stars from 46 ratings. Look through the reviews and see if this is a worthwhile app for you. Text Extractor Pro is currently available to download for $0.99. You might get lucky and catch it on a free update one of these days.

Undiscovered App #66: Dayli - Time Lapse Yourself

Dayli
By now, you've probably come across one of those cool time-lapse videos showing a cute little baby growing up into a full grown person in under 1 minute. If you've ever thought that was cool and wanted to do it yourself, you now have an opportunity to do it with today's Undiscovered App, called Dayli.

Dayli lets you stitch together numerous pictures and turn them into time lapse videos. That's it, no other explanation needed.

Well, okay, there is a handy reminder feature and an ability to draw guiding lines so you take pictures that are in the same position as the one before it. And you need a minimum of 4 photos before you can stitch them together to make a video. It would also help if you take pictures under the same lighting conditions as previous ones to make the photo transitions look smoother.

Dayli is available to download for $0.99. It has an average rating of 4.5 stars from 41 reviews. We think this photo app has a lot of potential if you can find the discipline to consistently take pictures over long periods of time.
