Undiscovered App #24: Hero of Many

Hero of Many

What do you call a game where you control an orb of energy that fights to escape through an underwater cavern, solving puzzles, collecting allies, and fighting battles along the way? I don't know, but that's what today's Undiscovered App, Hero of Many from Matous Jezek is all about. It kind of defies description, since it doesn't neatly fit into the traditional boxes that so many games do.

The official description is as follows:

Hero of Many is an atmospheric action adventure game where you lead a swarm of water-beings through fierce battles to freedom.

Hero of Many is an iPad-only game, and I thoroughly enjoyed losing track of time given its beautiful graphics and dark soundtrack that shifted the mood from wondrous, to dangerous, to just plain epic (for an even better experience, use headphones to hear the game sound in full quality). You start out with very little to guide you since the controls and interface are minimalistic, but the occasional cut scenes give you a very quick idea of what your objectives are. Character building has always been one of my favorite aspects of adventure games, and you get to do the same here, starting from a weak orb to one that gathers strength, eventually collecting a swarm strong enough to take on far more powerful enemies. The level progression was smooth, and there are a couple nice added touches like checkpoints that let you resume your game mid-level in case you die.

Hero of Many was just released, and so as of yet it has no ratings. We were fortunate to see it on our radar, as it is a very polished and well-made game, and highly recommend it for download. During the initial launch, it is being offered at 50% off, so you can download it for $1.99.

We were able to get an extra promo code thanks to some quick bug fixes to polish the game even further. If you want to get your hands on this, act fast!

For the lucky reader who grabs this, please consider mentioning it to your friends. App discovery is terribly difficult, and indie developers put in a lot of time and effort to get the word out in hopes of being able to see a return from their hard work.
